A Five Star Day! Now Let’s Talk Ice
(Thursday, January 22, 2009) – Sixty-four degrees. That was the high today in N. Jackson! Was it a good day to have a flat tire? My wife thought so and my son-in-law rescued her! That’s what they are for right? Not mine. He’s catalog-made-to-order for my daughter! So all is well on that matter.
I just wanted to mention something to watch for early next week that may mean a little icy weather. Oh, yeah, it gets colder this weekend. Now the jury members (a.k.a. computer models) are still deliberating on the verdict but some possible decisions could involve ice.
At the surface early next week will be coming out of a low-level cold air mass while upstairs a more zonal flow will begin to take shape. Moisture will be working its way to the north and east as the high pressure slowly eases off to the east.
This map shows that precipitation will break out during the day on Tuesday and notice the temperature map below it and you’ll notice that the freezing line will be in the neighborhood. So this is a scenario that will have to be monitored and a lot can change.
