Warmest Days in a Week and a Half
(Wed. Jan 21 2009) – A warming trend will characterize the last days of this work week. High pressure over the deep south today will shift east.
Southerly winds will develop today and this will push temperatures well into the 40s after a very cold start. At 5 AM, it was clear and mainly calm over West Tennessee, although light southerly winds were already being noted in Memphis, Selmer and Jackson. Temperatures ranged from 8º at Savannah to 10º at Selmer and Lexington to 18º at Dyersburg.
Looks like the warmest weather in a week and a half will round out this work week. High temperatures will be well into the 50s and some locales may reach 60º. It should remain dry through the daylight hours on Friday. Increased moisture on Friday will help clouds to gather ahead of the next cold front.
Right now, models suggest that moisture will be deepest across North MS. That is where the highest rain chances will be. Most of the rain chances in West TN will be confined to areas south of I-40.
Colder weather arrives for the weekend. It’ll be a 20 degree difference from how the work week closed out. It appears moisture will not be quick to leave! Cloudy, cold weather will dominate the weekend. Highs will be in the 30s on Saturday. Some areas north of I-40 may stay in the 20s on Sunday.
As the front settles across the Gulf States, weak impulses will ride along it and some light precipitation will be possible. Could be cold enough for a light rain/sleet mix south of I-40, however that is still a few days out. Something we’ll watch.
