(Sat. Jan 17 2009) – At late morning, high resolution visible satellite imagery over the midsouth showed mostly to partly sunny skies over the most of West Tennessee at 1031am.  The exception was in southen West TN from Memphis east along and south of Highway 64. A loop of the imagery reveal that these clouds to our south are lifting north.  This is the result of warm air advection ahead of a cold front that is currently in the northern plains and will be dropping to our area tonight.  By late morning temperatures were above freezing as far north as Union City. Here at the North Jackson Climatological Station, the temperature rose above freezing at 1030am CST, bringing an end to the sustain subfreezing temperatures for a total 67 1/2 hours. Winds were gusty from the South 15-25 mph. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid 40s over the West TN area today as skies cloud-up.

The cold front will sweep into the region tonight and bring the prospects spotty rain showers.  Snow flurries could fly behind the front, no accumulation is expected.

It will be a mainly cloudy, cold day on Sunday. A secondary shot of cold air comes into the area Sunday Night, knocking temperatures down yet more for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Monday’s highs should be in the low to mid-30s. Dry weather should rule.
