Wintry Mix Possible Tuesday Morning
(Monday, December 22, 2008) – Warmer and increasing moist air will begin making a return
tonight. This is already being noted during the afternoon with mid-level clouds
increasing over our skies. As the moisture increases, the air will saturate from the top down into the very cold arctic air over the region. It appears temperatures will fall off into the lower 20s before midnight tonight and then begin to rise. It will likely be mid-morning before temperatures rise above freezing in the Jackson area. Temperatures will likely be at or below freezing northwest of a line from Dyersburg to Paris even into late morning Tuesday. Precipitation is expected to break out across the area after 9 am Tuesday.
Those areas that are still below freezing at the time precipitation begins to fall will
have to contend with the prospects of freezing rain and sleet and travel could be
affected as roads may become slippery. Other areas, including the Jackson area may see
the onset of precipitation as sleet that will change to rain by mid-day. At this time,
travel problems are not anticipated around Jackson.
This enire scenario will be monitored closely and additional posts will be made as
needed.
