Weather to Offer an Arctic Welcome to Winter!

(Thursday, December 18, 2008) – Winter arrives at 6:04 AM CST this Sunday and the weather will truely be in sync with the calendar.  An arctic cold front will be arriving overnight Saturday night.  The Model Output Statistics (GFSX) forecast for Sunday is a high of 37º in Jackson.  Below is the raw guidance for max temps for Sunday by the 12z run of GFS, which I believe will end up being closer to the truth:

Max Temps for Sunday from GFS

Max Temps for Sunday from GFS

Highs in the 20s on the first day of winter!  The normal high is 49º.  The normal low is 31º!  The MOS guidance has been consistently too warm with this month’s arctic events.  The GFS raw guidance above actually has a better handle on the incoming arctic air for the weekend.  Keep this in mind and stay tuned!
