Freeze Warnings Through 9 AM Today and Again Late Tonight
(Tuesday, October 28, 2008) – After some cloudiness through most of the night, keeping temperatures above freezing a little longer than expected, at 5 AM satellite images and surface reports are showing mainly clear skies and temperatures ranging from 30º at Covington and Savannah to 35º at Jackson.
Today through Wednesday Night
The NWS continues a Freeze Warning for West TN through 9 AM this morning and then again late tonight and early Wednesday. High pressure with a Canadian connection will keep our weather cold through mid-week. Typically at the end of October we see highs around 68 and lows around 45. Highs will come off near-freezing temperatures and warm to levels near where they were Monday.
High pressure will move through the region tonight and Wednesday and with little wind and mainly clear skies temperatures will dip into the upper 20s again tonight in most areas. Winds become westerly Wednesday and temps will reach for 60º. Wednesday night will be mainly clear with temps staying above freezing but bottoming out in the 30s.
Thursday through Next Monday
This period will be characterized by a warming trend and we’ll see temps returning to around normal or maybe a “smidge” above. A weak cold front will attempt a move through the area on Saturday, but wash out in the process. Early next week a storm system will be cranking up in the High Plains and southerly winds will be strengthening. This will lead to a continued warming into the 70s.
Election Day Outlook
The storm will be going strong on election day – next Tuesday. High pressure is expected along the east coast. This translates into a near perfect day to go out to vote.
