Drying Out for the Weekend

(Friday, October 24, 2008) – Just before dawn showers were still operating over the eastern half of West TN. The heaviest showers at 4:45 am were from Lexington-Parsons south through Savannah. Upper level low pressure is spinning through MO this morning. Drier air is rotating around the low and is cutting down the moisture and thus low rain chances will prevail this morning. Models suggest that moisture will remain sufficient to keep us mostly cloudy today. A few peeks of sunshine would certainly be possible later this morning and again just before sunset.

As the low pushes away from us tonight we should see quick clearing. With the moisture on the ground, clearing skies and light winds, patchy fog could develop.

We go into the weekend with high pressure prevailing. Partly cloudy skies and highs in the 60s are expected for Saturday warming into the lower 70s on Sunday.

As I’ve been advertizing for the last several days, I’m still expecting the coldest air of the season to arrive late Sunday. Cold frontal passage should be during Sunday evening services in most locales. Not enough moisture for the front to work on to have any rain associated with it. It’s arrival will be noted by shifting winds that will increase in speed.

The chilly air will dominate our weather Monday and Tuesday before we begin a warm-up. Frost and freeze warnings will be possible as lows drop to around 32º Tuesday morning.

Warming should begin by Wednesday, it is likely we will not fall below freezing Tuesday night, but the question of frost is still not answered. Highs in the 50s are expected on Monday and Tuesday. We’ll return to the 60s Wednesday and Thursday.
