I'm 80 mi S of StL, I awoke to the noise of my metal coat hangers rattling, and my bed shaking somewhat, by the time I got the light on, it was a little stronger and candle sconces on the other side of the room were shaking on the wall. I work for a Sheriff Dept. and it cracked one of the copper water lines. No major damage was reported. I also felt the smaller quake this morning, it lasted approx 15 seconds or so, also no damage reported.

My family lives in western tennessee in ripley about 30 minutes from dyersburg. The quake woke me my mother and sister. I researched this morning and was surprised to find out that the quake started in illinois and reached all the way here. While it did no damage it certainly startled us all.

I had just gone back to bed at 4:40 AM--my bed "rocked" from side to side for about 10-15 seconds..starting as a slight tremor and then escalating during the 10-15 seconds to a "no-doubt about it" my bed is "rocking" motion. Quite weird.

It woke my husband, son, and me up in Clarksville, TN!!! My dresser drawer handles were kept rattling once we no longer could actually feel the quake. I shook the whole 1800 sq. foot house...amazing the power of that radiated all the way from Illinois. Makes me a little concerned about the New Madrid just west of here. I might just need to look into e.q. insurance...:>

Based on the USGS web site ( http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/Quakes/us2008qza6.php#summary ) this ties the strongest they've ever recorded in S. IL: "The largest historical earthquake in the region (magnitude 5.4) damaged southern Illinois in 1968."
