“Flat” Pattern – A Good Thing in Spring!
5:00am – A quiet morning over West TN with only spotty high clouds indicated on satellite images. Overnight lows came around midnight last night before the south winds kicked in. Lows were near 30 in many areas. When the winds stirred things up, temperatures rose about 5 degrees.
The overall weather pattern over the U.S. is taking a “flat” look. That simply means the steering winds will be more zonal (West to East). Few kinks in the flow, means minimal storminess and temperatures near average. So in spring, that’s a good thing! That should hold until the end of the week. Average highs are in the mid-60s and we should do at least that well and better. Also in a “flat” pattern when a cold front attempts to make into our area, it will usually not be very successful. That will be the case for Wednesday. Enough low level moisture will build to give us clouds but with very little to trigger any showers…isolated activity will be the worse case scenario through Thursday. Here is my short term forecast:
.TODAY…MOSTLY SUNNY, WINDY AND WARMER. HIGHS 64.
.TONIGHT…INCREASING CLOUDINESS. LOWS 51.
.WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT…AN ISOLATED SHOWER POSSIBLE, OTHERWISE MOSTLY CLOUDY. HIGH 68. LOW WEDNESDAY NIGHT AROUND 60.
.THURSDAY…BREEZY AND MILD. MOSTLY CLOUDY. HIGH 72.
As we approach the weekend, one of those “kinks” in the upper flow will develop and that will push a cold front into and through the area. The timing for its passage is squarely on Friday. So look for at least a 50-50 probability of rain Friday and Friday night. Too early to see any severe weather threat with the front on Friday. Will need a little more time to see if elements come together, but right now the SPC does not have us outlooked for a risk area on Friday. That might change in time.
Weekend is looking good. After 70s on Friday, we’ll cool down Saturday to low-end 60s. Sunday recovers nicely with sunshine and highs approaching 70.
Early indications are the start of the new work-week will be a stormy one. Stay-tuned.
