Unsettled Weather Weekend To Include Wind and Rain
5:00am – A quiet and relatively mild late winter morning around W. TN. High clouds are streaming over the region and temperatures are ranging from the upper 30s to mid-40s. Typically we would be in the lower 30s. The 3:00am weather map showed high pressure centered over the southeast states and a cold front about to enter W. TN. The front extended from Cairo, IL to Jonesboro, AR. Behind the front temperatures are in the lower 30s.
My forecast thoughts go like this: We will see our high temperatures this morning–mid-40s at best and then they will drop back into the 30s this afternoon. Generally high clouds will prevail.
Tonight…the front pushes to Jackson, MS and becomes stationary and a major upper level trough gets set to move out of the western US. Low pressure will form on the front to our southwest. A weak return flow will come up and over the colder air over us. So areas of drizzle could be possible overnight. Some areas will be below freezing and that would produce a very light glaze on exposed objects. Think roads will be ok.
Saturday…the storm system will continue to organize and at least scattered rain will dot the landscape by afternoon. Most of the AM hours should be dry. Highs will attempt to get to 50.
Saturday Night…a warm front will lift north through the area and our temperatures should rise through the 50s overnight with showers likely and maybe a thunderstorm or two. The low pressure storm center will continue to intensify so windy conditions will be evident Saturday night with gusts over 30 mph at times.
Sunday…a cold front will push through the are Sunday morning. It’ll become blustry with temperatures dropping into the 40s by afternoon. Gusty winds of 35 mph will be possible.
Presidents’ Day through Tuesday…cool high pressure will prevail with a quiet weather pattern.
Wednesday and Thursday should be warmer with some scattered rain developing.
Friday may get stormy. We’ll be monitoring.
**Have a great weekend!**
